J'aime parce que je dois

Probably the only aspects of our beings left pure are the friends we have not met and the relationships we are yet to cultivate.

Through life’s alleyways, over its crags, across its valleys, its oceans, deserts and steppes we experience all sorts. We encounter false friends. We begin disastrous relationships. Some of us are damaged emotionally, some both emotionally and physically.
All the same, we trudge on, we continue. We live because that is the only currency life understands. Continuity, regardless.

In all of this love when discovered renews the soul and gives life a completely new meaning, when it comes it comes, causing a seismic shift to your very existence. Surely, there is more to it than a palpating heart.

I must embrace it with an open mind and all that is left of my heart, cos that is all it needs to survive.

Thieves, Buffoons and a Harvard Educated Economist.

90% of the Nigerian political demography at present is comprised of Thieves, Buffoons and Harvard Educated Economists.

It is no news that the Nigerian Economy is haemorrhaging resources. With insecurity at an all time high investors are extremely skittish about setting up shop within her borders. Elections looming in 2015 further complicates the complexity of the general state of things.

With allegations and counter allegations of fraud ricochetting about the place and the President showing a distinct lack of appetite on tackling corruption,  there seems to be no end to the level of impunity ravaging an already faltering economy.

To think that at the helm of things economy-wise is sat, the co-coordinating minister of the economy and of Finance  Dr. Okonjo-Iweala who persistently insist that the Nigerian economy is fast growing, stable and holds monumental potential.

The only potential outside investors see right now is a giant smouldering keg of gun powder simmering over west Africa, and a bevy of bungling politicians playing with match sticks seemingly oblivious to the fact that they are sat right in the middle of it all. At present they seem to be getting a high from the panicked oohs and aahs and looks of apprehension from the world around.

Dr Iweala has seen her reputation torn to shreds mainly due to the fact that she has kept mum about a whole lot of goings on that have proved to be extremely detrimental to the economy. The pick of which is the non remittance of revenue by the NNPC to the Central Bank. A development that is not only constitutionally wrong, it is criminal. The result has been the disappearance into thin air of $20 billion.

Perhaps the saddest part of it all is that we have one of our most brilliant economist being part of a government that is obviously out of its depth and being oblivious to or rather pretending to be oblivious to the actual state of events. Which forces one to bring to question her credibility and moral standing.

weapon of choice.

Racism could be seen as a tool, a weapon lying idly on the floor placed there by listening to the wrong people, having a misguided sense of superiority and narcissism. With the slightest hint of a confrontation and equipped with just the right amount of ignorance a man wouldn't hesitate to strike his fellow man with this most disgraceful of ordinances.

It doesn't come with the colour of ones skin or the sound of ones voice, it comes with the lack of knowledge and the wilfulness to malign and cause  damage. It has no place in civilization thus highlights the uncanny attribute of some people to return to savagery at the slightest excuse.

the woman...

Men will like to think that "Woman" means;  Taken out of man.
Well, I will love to think that woman means; The Bearer of mankind.

Through the eyes of a friend.

It is intelligent to know where you stand. Defining yourself in your own words, that way you can actually grasp the idea that other people do have their individual thoughts about themselves and what they stand for. Know what your perspectives are in relation to perspectives of other people and be able to relate to those perspectives what ever they may be in an articulate and efficient manner.

We would always have different perspectives on everything that is what makes us all intelligent beings. Having these views is one thing and relating these views in an articulate manner to people around you is another. Your ability to make this the substance and goal of your interaction with your fellow human does ultimately define who you are.

Taking people as they are, making a credible effort to understand and accept them as they come gives you a unique platform upon which to present you and your values to them. Only then can you give and take.

For what you are is the world without you. With this view, you can perceive the world and yourself as a sojourner in it.

Presenting yourself to your fellow man gives an opportunity to be understood and perceived without fault. Being honest to ones own whims and clicks. This would give your fellow man an opportunity to give you the joy of being told who you are from his own view point. Bearing in mind he can only tell what he sees and how he sees it.

It is rich to know oneself and richer yet to be able to see oneself with the eyes of another.

Being Governed - The Careless Choice.

People’s reaction to being governed always does vary. With each man showing some degree of nonchalance to who is elected to govern. With the definition of democracy these days’ people have become even less interested in who is elected to rule. Media Frenzy drives it all  on. Telling people who to vote and why.

In the United States you could get elected for the most trivial of factors even though it’s got nothing to do with actual governance.  Maybe you have got a nice dog, you are left handed, your neighbours cat died…..almost for any reason.

In Nigeria corrupt politicians are elected into office over and over again. Despite the sorry fact that people actually know they are corrupt. It is worrying. Sometimes, all you needed to do was to drive down the street with the latest Mercedes Benz and you have yourself a street full of loyal supporters.

People don’t research their choice, they wait to be told who who-is and what they can do and what they stand for. They look for the thrill, for all the minor things surrounding an election without looking at the most important thing which is usually the capacity to rule and will for change.

It is not akin to a particular people or place. It is just the way people think. The thrill, that it could be you. The secret happily ever after story behind every victory, every success story could be a driving factor.

“Madness is rare in individuals-but groups, parties, nations and ages it is the rule,” said Nietzsche in Beyond Good and Evil.

So it is to this day. So it is.

footfalls

first the tiny patter then the hesitant shuffles
mindless staggers in the dark
a light springs up the darkness recedes
then the purposeful deliberate sounds of haste

the cock crows the footfalls get louder and multiply
the sun takes a peek over the horizon
the footfalls get louder yet
its almost as if the sun fills them with energy

first there is one, then two and three
there are small ones, big ones
slow and fast ones all headed in one direction
fast and in unison they all head out

even as the tide goes out so the footfalls pull away
it becomes a trickle and then all is silent
the sun breathes his hottest and begins his decent
his blistering majesty all aflame and fierce

the footfalls return first the trickle
then the tide comes in, quick ones, slow ones big and small
the sun smiles and says his farewells and as quietly as it started
the smell of a spent day and a young night beckoning

The quiet light of the moon, a celestial lullaby
Gently rocks the drowsy world
To snooze land as all haste is abandoned
the hesitant stagger the little patter

A light goes out and darkness creeps in
To watch over those feet as
the footfalls trickle and cease
